Marketing
the Site
Since the most basic (but often overlooked)
web traffic building campaign should include promoting your web address through every
means you already have in place. News paper ads, letter head, mailers, printed or
otherwise on your product packaging, in your voice mail messages, etc...
All will help you reach your
prospects and customers and we can do it All.
The correct answer is ..........web
page design.
........I know design is important,
but why the most important?
Very simple. The layout and design of
your site is the foundation.
Your site is a product. Through it customers get to know you and your products. If they
dont buy your sites design and layout, they dont buy anything at all.
Click the search button on your
browser and enter in some keywords on the engine of your choice. Now click on the #1
result. Ask yourself: Am I going to stay here or am I going to press my BACK button and
leave to look at the other results????????
How many sites do you go through
before you find a site you will at least browse through? How often is the #1 ranked page,
or a banner ad, or link you enter ever capture your interest? What is the reason for not
being interested in a site even if it offers the product, service, or content which is the
object of your search?
The fact is
that 50% of the time the design of the front page
will invite or actually chases you away.
The marketing of a site must bring
people to it....The front page must encourage them to stay.
Design and content of the entire site must bring them back...Again...and....Again.....
When Designing We Consider....
LOAD
TIME........SCREEN APPEARANCE........NAVIGATION
JAVA.........
PLUGINS.........AESTHETICS
LOAD TIME: How fast does the web site
load? Is it taking too long? Will your average customer wait forever for the page to
load? Maybe you need to fine tune your current site so that it loads faster We can
evaluate your current web site.
SCREEN APPEARANCE: How does your site
appear on various screen sizes? Remember you may have a 19 X 1024 X 768 resolution screen,
but what screen size is your customer using?
Most people are still looking at web sites on a 14" monitor at 640 x 480 resolution.
We make sure your page can be viewed
with minimal effort to scroll sideways
to read text and view images.
NAVIGATION: We make sure your site is
easy to navigate so you and your customers won't get lost. This is especially true for
large sites.
(And we make sure they always know they are on your site!)
People usually come to a site via the front page. They should be able to get from there
to the object of their search. Having accomplished their mission, they should then be able
to browse other areas of the site with ease--
and possibly do some impulse shopping or window shopping at least.
JAVA, PLUGINS, ETC.
Remember that over half the browsers
in use today are not the latest from
Netscape, Microsoft, or AOL. This is changing rapidly, however, until it does
we suggest to go easy on things like Java Script, Java Applets and DHTML unless your
customer base can view them.
Yes they do add to your site, but
think about the average person
surfing with a NS 3.0 with a 133 Pentium and 32Mb or less of RAM.
Most people arent going to wait 3 minutes for your Java to load.
In some cases it will cause their browser to crash.
People are also not keen on loading plugins just to view your page.
If you must have that cool Java thing
going on, we can also develop a page
that can be viewed with out it!
AESTHETICS
You may love your site, but will your
customer? Try to avoid things like multiple fonts and full color backgrounds that look
nice but make the page hard to read. It is important that your pages have a nice clean
layout. A page is a virtual world extension of a business.
Your page should not
be a showcase for designer talent.
A page that doesnt necessarily dazzle the eyes and
ears but sells your product is what you want.
Take a look at other successful pages in your industry. Imitate
their professionalism.
If your page looks amateurish next to theirs, its time for a redesign.
By paying attention to detail, we can build a site that
gives your company the look and feel of a Fortune 500 member--even if you are based in
your garage.
But if your site gives the look and feel of someone working from their garage-- who has
little--understanding of business, dont expect to be overwhelmed with hits.
